So, I told you before about the squirrels invading the house.
When the last squirrel invaded the house, we got the exterminator to come out to see if he could catch it. No luck in catching the squirrel but we believe we got it out of the house. We also got some traps to potentially catch the squirrels should they return.
We set up an appointment to have the house sealed off so the bushy-tailed tree rats won’t be able to get back inside. Today was that day.
They were arriving early (scheduled for 8:00 AM) so I was planning to be up early anyway. I set my alarm for 6:00 AM. Sirocco thought I needed to be up earlier than that so he woke me up at around 5:00 AM. He needed pets but Major Tom went out to use the potty and check the perimeter. I tried getting back to sleep but it didn’t happen. The wife was having a bad night and she got up too. At least I didn’t have to rush through my shower.
The guys from the pest control company showed up around 8:30 AM. They checked the attic to see where the squirrels were getting in. They said it didn’t look like there were any indications of recent squirrel activity, which they said was a good sign. Apparently grey squirrels tend to dig in and stay put when they find a place to nest. It makes them very hard to get rid of, so I’m glad we didn’t have to deal with that.
They went outside and got to work. It took them about an hour and a half to make their way around the outside of the house. They thought they might have to install one way traps but since there was no sign of recent squirrel infestation, they sealed up all the potential entrances.
Now that we have the squirrel population blocked from entering the house, I took the traps out to the garage. I took all the peanut butter crackers we used for bait and put them in the backyard for the squirrels or birds or whoever to partake. I’m sure something will eat them.
Finally, now that we don’t have to worry about the rodents, the wife wanted the new curtains hung back up. I took care of that task only to find out that I hung the wrong curtains on the wrong windows. I took them down, switched them around, and rehung everything. This made the wife much happier. You know what they say, happy wife, happy life.
I will be more at ease in the new house now. If a squirrel got in while the dogs were wandering around, I don’t think it’d work out well for anyone. Hopefully they will keep the rodent population under control as they spend more time in the backyard. We have the oldest tree in town on our property so at least the squirrels have someplace historical to hang out.
I hope all your encounters with the local wildlife are beneficial, my Hordeling.
