After getting some errands done in the morning, and eating lunch, the rest of the day was pretty fun.
Okay, it didn’t start off as ‘fun’ exactly. The wife wanted to get rid of a recliner in the living room, and replace it with one we had sitting in the garage. A friend of mine came over to help with moving the furniture around. There’s nothing like trying to get a recliner up several small steps to get it into the house, especially when those steps are about an inch wider than the recliner. After much manhandling of the chair we finally managed to get it in the house and into the living room where it belonged.
Then it was off to have fun. The wife and our two friends went to the local game shop so we could have some fun without the dogs being constantly underfoot and demanding attention.
We played Yahtzee Words. It is sort of like Yahtzee in that it uses dice, but instead of numbers, it has letters on the dice. You score points by making words with two letters, three letters, on up to six letters. You can get points for making one word, two words, or getting all vowels or consonants. The ultimate is making a seven letter word using all the dice, which is considered a Yahtzee. I came in second place, losing to our friend, but placing higher than her husband and the wife. It was fun, a pleasant diversion.
After that we went to a local tavern restaurant for an early dinner. We got in just before the dinner rush started but it still took a while to get our food. It was delicious though. I had their Southwest Chicken Sandwich – grilled chicken, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a side of potato salad. We were trying to figure out what it was that made the potato salad so good. It was our waitress’s first night so I asked her what the secret to the potato salad was. She went back into the kitchen to ask. She came back out with a handwritten list of ingredients. We looked it over but decided there was at least one ingredient missing. We figured it was dill.
After eating we split and went our separate ways. Came home and got the dogs fed. They were quite happy about that.
Was feeling tired but the wife and I played a game of Scrabble. I started out strong, even got the Z and X tiles and played on a lot of the double word score and one or two of the triple word score spaces. Ultimately though the wife won 284 to 219. She reigns supreme at Scrabble.
I am feeling worn out after all this. I’m guessing it is from Sirocco waking me up at 5:30 AM and not getting to take a nap during the day. I’m hoping some rest overnight will restore me to my usual more alert self.
Also, don’t forget to move your clocks forward tonight for Daylights Savings Time, if you do that in your part of the world, my Hordeling.
