We had some decent weather today, meaning the temperatures were at least ten degrees warmer than freezing, little to no wind, no snow or ice on the ground, and sunshine. The wife’s takeaway from this was to go to the pool.
This was the first time we’ve been to the pool this year. It has been way too cold up until now. Also, the pool is heated but there are days when they don’t turn the heat on and it is arctic. It can be hit or miss. Also, the men’s locker room where I get changed, is arctic.
We got bundled up and headed out. We got there just as the water aerobics class was ending, which was good because we got the pool mostly to ourselves.
The pool water was (mostly) warm this morning and I acclimated to it fairly quickly. I got my laps in, then floated around while the wife did her exercises. I am pool noodle bearer, following her around the pool in case she needs her pool noodle. It never hurts to be prepared for these things.
After we left the pool, we went to sit in the hot tub for a bit. Ah, blessed heat! I enjoyed it while it lasted.
I noticed that when I got into the men’s locker room to change, it wasn’t arctic. Finally! I’m guessing they got around to getting heating installed. That or maybe they turned it on since it was cold outside. Usually it is like a freezer in there.
We got to the car and I expected we were heading home. It was past lunchtime and I wanted to eat. No such luck. The wife had to run an errand first. Once we finished that, I again expected to head home.
“We need to go to Wal-mart.”
“Why?”
“We need groceries.”
< heavy sigh > Buying groceries while you are hungry is a good way to buy a lot of extras you don’t need. But I digress.
We headed to Wal-mart and got the groceries. As I’m walking around looking at food I just want to start grabbing boxes, tearing them open and gobbling the contents. I restrained myself, behaved, and stocked the basket.
With groceries gathered I figured now we’d be heading home and getting lunch. Nope. The wife goes wandering over to the clothing area and starts shopping. I decided I can give her a few minutes to browse. On a sidenote, we ran into one of our favorite waitresses while she too was out shopping. Small Town America, FTW!
At this point I’m getting hungrier and given my recent inability to feel sated after eating I found it was getting the better of me.
“I’d just like to point out that it is well past lunchtime. You might want to consider shopping a little quicker before I grab a random customer and start chowing down.” This got a chuckle from the wife. More importantly, it goaded her into cutting her shopping trip a little shorter. We headed to checkout and finally made our way home.
Sometimes the oddest things pop out of my mouth.
