It’s official. We’ve finally sold the Texas house!
It only took ten months longer than expected, but the deed is finally done.
Last May, when we were planning to leave Texas for good, he wife was looking for a simple way to sell the house. Since I’d sold my home to OpenDoor, and the process went smoothly for a fair price, the wife wanted something similar. She didn’t get the offer she wanted from OpenDoor and other companies like it. Then came Freedom Hawk Equity, LLC with a similar offer. It turns out, you should never, never, ever do business with them.
Well, after the fiasco that was dealing with Freedom Hawk Equity, LLC, run by Blake Hawkins, AssHat Extraordinaire, we’ve been on a quest to get the house sold the old-fashioned way – going through a realtor. It is a lot more work, and stress to have to do it this way, but after getting badly burned we figured we needed something tried and true.
We got a realtor through a friend of ours who used to be in a business networking group with us. She’s been a real go-getter, showing the house multiple times a day.
We finally got a buyer who was interested in getting the house. Then we had to go trough all the back and forth, working out what repairs we’d do and which we would let the new owners deal with, that sort of thing. We’ve also bee paying utilities and insurance on the house, which has been a financial burden.
We finally got down to brass tacks and the closing was this morning. We did things electronically, so I had to run tech support for the wife. She was unsure about doing everything online with electronic signatures. Also, her anti-virus software kept popping up while we were in the process saying the site was insecure. I had to reassure her the site was secure and this was a legitimate deal. (The pop-ups were because other agents were using the same system and it somehow got flagged by the anti-virus software.)
Ultimately we got all the i’s dotted and the t’s crossed. We’ve sold the house and are free of the financial burden. What a relief.
Now, on to bigger and better things.
