I planned to get up early, but Sirocco decided to wake me at around 4:45 AM. He didn’t need to go out, he just wanted attention. I went back to sleep and had an odd dream that I was trying to drive somewhere, and I didn’t have a lot of time to get there. I decided to go to a hotel, and there was someone else staying in my room. I left the hotel and was in the car again but this time I was heading away from where I needed to be going. Then I woke up just before the alarm went off.
Took care of all my usual morning business, then got on the road. Me and Major Tom on a road trip. Did I mention that our vet is in the next town over?
We had a nice drive with a few bits of fog along the way. It’s a little over half an hour to the next town.
I pulled into the parking lot. I was going to go in and get us registered but Major Tom bolted out of the car. When you gotta go, you gotta go. We took a few minutes walking the grounds for him to find just the right spot to do his business. Several more cars pulled into the parking lot behind us, and all those folks got in the queue before us.
Major Tom finally finished so I took him in with me. I waited in line (fortunately only one person was left ahead of me so it wasn’t a long wait) until the receptionist could see us.
“What are you here for?” she asked.
I told her we had a notice from them that Major Tom had several vaccinations due.
“Let me look that up for you.” She typed a few things into the computer. “It looks like the rabies and distemper shots he has are three year types. They won’t be due again until next year. His bordatello isn’t due until October.”
“So, nothing now?”
“Well, I could check and see if the doctor could give him his shots, but they aren’t necessary right now.”
“Righty-o. I guess we’ll be off then.”
“I’ll update his records so they don’t send out automated notices like that again.”
“I’d appreciate it. Thanks.”
I took Major Tom back to the car, with another potty break along the way. I bundled him in and we came home.
On the one hand, we had a nice drive, with pleasant scenery, but on the other hand, I’ve got other shtuff to do than drive over an hour on an unneeded errand. Next time, I’ll call first and verify that they have the right information before making the trip.
