Yesterday, after we finished with the wife’s doctor appointment, we went out to have breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants. The wife had an omelet and I had eggs, bacon and pancakes. Oh, and hot chocolate. Quite tasty.
We were exiting the parking lot, ready to head home, when I looked at the sign for the place. Under the main part with the restaurant name and logo they had an area where they could post short messages. Things like what specials they might be having, or their hours of operation, or pithy sayings. This time they had a pithy saying, which also serves as some sage advice.
“When life hands you lemons, trash them and get some bacon instead”.
Everybody loves bacon (except maybe pigs). And if you don’t love bacon, well I respect your choice.
The saying usually goes “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”. Good advice, meaning that when something negative happens to you, try and turn it into something positive. Lemons are sour, but lemonade is sweet / tart. Everyone likes lemonade. (If you don’t well, see what I said about bacon above.)
But the restaurant takes this advice and turns it up to 11. Bacon is just awesome. I like mine crispy. The best bacon I ever had was when the wife and I were traveling in Missouri and we stopped to eat at an Iron Skillet restaurant. I don’t now what they did to their bacon but it was obviously sent directly from Heaven. The wife agrees. We’ve never been able to find the place again, nor have we found bacon as good as they had.
If you’ve got negative things in your life, don’t just try to make something positive. Try to turn it into somethng so caliwandalous that the pillars of Heaven shake!
OK, maybe I’m just reading too much into a funny spin on some classic advice. You decide.
