Two hundred and fifty (250) years ago, we of the United States Of America successfully thumbed our noses at the King Of Britain, King George III at the time, and declared our independence from British rule. We went on to create a Constitution as the foundation of our government, then spread out from thirteen colonies on the East Coast eventually all the way to the West coast.
We had a bunch of smart, well-educated guys who read a lot to get things started. Guys like John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and others who had the vision and foresight to put it all together, and bring forth this nation. To paraphrase Tony Stark in the first Iron Man movie (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371746/) – “That’s how the Founding Fathers did it, that’s the way America does it, and it’s worked out pretty well so far.”
We’ve had plenty of challenges and a few missteps along the way, but overall, this bold experiment has succeeded beyond most people’s expectations. All we have to do now is keep it going and not screw it up. With the way things are going in the world today, that’s no easy task.
If you are in the States, I hope you had a safe, fun, and happy Independence Day. If not, I hope you had a great day, too.
Here’s to two hundred and fifty more years of our nation as a Democratic Republic.
