Around this time, nineteen years ago, I was in Ireland. My step-daughter was getting married. Her father had Irish ancestry and he always wanted to go visit Ireland, so the step-daughter decided she wanted to hold her wedding there. Since the wife and I were good friends at the time, they invited me to go along with the family. The step-daughter was already married in the States and the Ireland wedding was more of a ceremony. I officiated at the wedding in Ireland, marrying her in the chapel of Castle Sligo. It was a nice ceremony, if I do say so myself.
The whole thing went well and we did a two week long whirlwind tour of Ireland. It is a truly beautiful and scenic country, especially southern Ireland. I recommend a visit.
The step-daughter has a twin sister, who was also along for the journey. One of our stops was at the ruins of an Abbey, I don’t recall exactly where. The wife used to be a professional photographer and takes photos of everything. Thousands of photos.
She wanted to do a photo shoot of the twin sister among the locations of the ruins. It was a cold, misty kind of day (in the middle of summer!) and the step-daughter was wearing her bridesmaid dress from the wedding, which didn’t give her a lot of covering from the weather.
Since there were may other people there, I was a little concerned about the wife getting into everything trying to get her photos. There was a tour group visiting. The wife went barreling through the group so she could get to another part of the ruins to get a shot.
I had an entire cover story planned out in case something like this happened and the locals got in a snit. The sister was going to be Anjelica Fitzsimmons, up and coming international supermodel. She was involved in a shoot in Ireland covering many different locations, which if it went well, would get her on the cover of several glamour magazines, like Vogue and Elle, launching her career.
Yeah, my mind works in mysterious ways and makes up stories about everything all the time. A favorite activity to keep the wife distracted while flying is making up stories about our fellow passengers. Or coming up with weird topics for stories, like vampire rabid flying squirrels. Yes, the wife took that idea, ran with it, and wrote a short story about a vampire rabid flying squirrel.
Anyway, the tour group and guide didn’t seem to take any notice of the wife so I didn’t have to use the cover story. Although, I wonder if I had used it if the sister might be on the cover of several fashion magazines by now. The world will never know.
