So, the wife decided that she wanted to go on a shopping adventure, and picked the farmer’s market. Of course, it was the farmer’s market in the Next Town Over.
The plan was to get up at 5:00 AM, get ready to leave, then drive to the Next Town Over, get breakfast, then go to the farmer’s market. The market conveniently opens at 6:00 AM, as does the restaurant. Since things don’t go to plan, I was awakened at 4:40 AM by Major Tom barking his fool head off. I don’t know what got him so riled up but I got up to let him into the backyard. There was no getting back to sleep after that. I took my shower, then got ready to leave.
We were out the door at approximately 5:30 AM. If it weren’t for stopping to get breakfast, I don’t think I’d have been on board with this little outing. The restaurant was one of those quaint Small Town America diners. I got a pancake, bacon, and hot chocolate. The pancake was huge! I’m glad I didn’t order two. The bacon was nice and crispy, and the hot chocolate was good.
Being sufficiently fueled, we went to the farmer’s market. I think we managed to do the entire circuit and surprisingly the wife didn’t buy anything. In addition to the usual fruits and vegetables, there were plenty of other things up for sale – books, DVDs, rifles, toys, tools, parts for all sorts of things that I don’t know what they went to, artificial plants, puppies … you name it, someone probably had it for sale.
After shopping it was back to the house to water the lawn and plants.
Why we had to get up at the crack of dawn to go shopping at a location that will be open all day, I’m not really sure. It’s not like the frenzied buying at Black Friday sales, or that there is any immediate holiday approaching. I suppose there’s the ‘if I don’t get there early, someone else will find the One Thing I’ve been looking for and buy it first!’ mentality.
At least I got a short nap later in the day to make up for being up so early.
